Avnet earnings beat as component demand drives record quarter

Beat — Adjusted EPS $3.63 vs ~$2.89 consensus

Avnet earnings vastly exceeded expectations, with record sales, expanding margins and stronger-than-expected second-quarter guidance.

Avnet entered this quarter as a global electronic-components distributor coming out of a sharp demand recovery, with recent growth tied to stronger demand for single-board computers and on-the-board components. Its own prior outlook called for roughly $9.0B–$9.3B of sales and $2.80–$2.90 of adjusted EPS, while published estimates were around $9.29B of revenue and $2.89 of EPS.

The quarter was a clear beat, even after adjusting for the calendar. Sales reached $10.7B and adjusted EPS was $3.63, far above the roughly $2.89 consensus. The quarter contained 14 weeks rather than 13, but Avnet estimates that underlying sales still grew 71% year over year, so the result was not merely a calendar artifact. 〔0〕

MetricQ1 FY27Q1 FY26Consensus
Sales (Key Financial Metrics)$10.718B (+81.7%)$5.899B~$9.29B
Adjusted diluted EPS (Key Financial Metrics)$3.63 (+332.1%)$0.84~$2.89
Adjusted operating margin (Key Financial Metrics)4.7% (+210 bps)2.6%
EC operating margin (Segment Financial Information)4.8% (+189 bps)2.9%
Farnell operating margin (Segment Financial Information)10.1% (+576 bps)4.3%

The quality of the beat was unusually broad. Electronic Components drove most of the growth, with sales up 84% year over year, while Farnell sales rose 46%; both businesses also expanded operating margins. That matters because the result was not dependent on one geography or one isolated product line: sales increased across all EC regions and Farnell. 〔1〕

Profitability improved much faster than revenue. Adjusted operating income grew 230.5% year over year, roughly three times the pace of sales growth, while adjusted EPS grew four times faster than sales. Return on working capital also rose to 25.2% from 19.2% in the prior quarter, showing that Avnet is converting the stronger demand into better operating efficiency rather than simply carrying more volume. 〔2〕

The balance-sheet picture is the main restraint, but not enough to offset the result. Operating cash flow was negative $842M as receivables and inventories expanded sharply, and total debt increased from the June quarter. That reflects the working capital required to support the growth, while inventory days remained relatively flat at 72; still, the cash conversion burden is a real execution issue beneath the headline earnings beat.

The next-quarter outlook keeps the momentum intact. Avnet guided to $11.1B–$11.4B of sales and $3.90–$4.10 of adjusted EPS for the quarter ending January 2, 2027, implying about 5% sequential sales growth despite the extra week in Q1. The guidance assumes similar component supply, so management is signaling continued demand without assuming a major supply improvement. 〔3〕

Bottom line: This was materially better than the standing expectation: demand accelerated, margins widened across both operating groups, and the next-quarter outlook remained strong. The only meaningful caveat is that the growth is consuming substantial working capital, but the filing clearly strengthens Avnet’s recovery story rather than merely confirming it.
