Beat — Adj. EPS $12.54 vs ~$11.64 consensus; FY EPS guide raised to $47.00-$48.00
Grainger’s Q3 earnings beat consensus, with strong growth across both segments and another increase to its 2026 guidance.
Grainger is in a strong execution cycle as a broad-line MRO distributor, with its North American High-Touch business and Endless Assortment platforms both being used to capture industrial and digital demand. Its prior quarter already showed strong growth and a guidance increase, so this was not a low-expectation setup.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Financial Highlights) | $5.181B (+11.3%) | $4.657B | ~$5.08B consensus |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $12.54 (+22.8%) | $10.21 | ~$11.64 consensus |
| Adjusted operating margin (Financial Highlights) | 16.1% (+90 bps) | 15.2% | — |
| FY2026 adjusted EPS guide (Guidance) | $47.00-$48.00 | — | $45.50-$47.25 prior guide |
| FY2026 operating cash flow guide (Guidance) | $2.35-$2.45B | — | $2.25-$2.40B prior guide |
The quarter clearly beat the operating bar, not just the accounting bar. Adjusted EPS of $12.54 was well above the published consensus of roughly $11.64, while sales of $5.181 billion also exceeded the roughly $5.08 billion expectation. The quality of the beat is supported by 14.9% daily, organic constant-currency sales growth and double-digit growth in both major segments. 〔0〕
Growth was broad rather than concentrated in one business. High-Touch Solutions-N.A. sales rose 13.8%, while Endless Assortment rose 19.3% on a daily, organic constant-currency basis. That matters because Grainger is trying to build a two-engine model: a resilient service-led North American distributor alongside faster-growing digital assortment businesses. 〔1〕
The guidance increase makes this more than a one-quarter beat. Management lifted the full-year sales range to $19.8-$20.0 billion from $19.4-$19.7 billion, adjusted EPS to $47.00-$48.00 from $45.50-$47.25, and operating cash flow to $2.35-$2.45 billion from $2.25-$2.40 billion. The margin ranges also moved higher, although the gross-margin increase was modest and the company continues to benefit from the comparison against its exited U.K. operations. 〔2〕
The main caveat is that reported comparisons overstate the underlying improvement. Q3 2025 included the loss from exiting the U.K. market, so reported operating earnings and EPS nearly doubled; adjusted operating earnings grew a more meaningful 18.2% and adjusted EPS grew 22.8%. Even after removing that distortion, however, the quarter still shows strong sales leverage, improved margins, and better cash generation.
Bottom line: This is a meaningful positive update: Grainger beat a high bar across sales and earnings, then raised its full-year outlook again. The event strengthens an already-positive execution story rather than completely rewriting it. citeturn191860search0turn191860earch3
