Miss — Adjusted loss per share of $0.18 vs ~$0.32 consensus; revenue $3.874B vs ~$4.00B consensus
Flutter’s Q3 earnings miss, Brazil impairment and lower 2026 guidance overshadow improving FanDuel sportsbook execution and prediction-market growth.
Flutter is in the middle of a reset: repairing FanDuel’s U.S. sportsbook lead, building a prediction-markets business, extracting savings from its international portfolio, and trying to deleverage a heavily financed balance sheet. The earlier strategy was already centered on U.S. product improvement, prediction markets and cost efficiency, so this filing is mainly a test of execution rather than a wholly new direction.
The quarter missed the market’s financial bar. Revenue rose only 2% to $3.874 billion versus a published consensus near $4.00 billion, while adjusted EPS swung to a $0.18 loss versus an expected profit of roughly $0.32 per share.
| Figure | Q3 2026 | Comparison 1 | Comparison 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Q3 Overview) | $3,874M (+2%) | $3,794M | ~$4,000M consensus |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Q3 Overview) | $360M (-25%) | $478M | |
| Adjusted EPS (EPS reconciliation) | $(0.18) | $1.64 | ~$0.32 consensus |
| Group revenue guidance (2026 Guidance) | $17.61B | $17.91B prior | |
| Group adjusted EBITDA guidance (2026 Guidance) | $2.495B | $2.655B prior | |
| Leverage ratio (Cashflow and capital structure) | 4.6x | 3.7x Dec. 2025 |
The underlying U.S. sportsbook repair is real, but expensive. FanDuel’s U.S. revenue grew 6%, sportsbook handle increased 13%, and the company says performance was ahead of expectations; however, heavier promotions and investment in prediction markets left U.S. adjusted EBITDA at just $3 million, down 94%. The filing states, “Sportsbook revenue growth of 4% year-over-year driven by a strong handle performance with 13% year-over-year growth, well ahead of expectations.” 〔0〕
Prediction markets are gaining traction, but are still an investment story rather than a profit contributor. FanDuel Predicts reached 66,000 average monthly players and $119 million of quarterly volume, with October volume up 271% versus July, yet revenue was not material and the company expects investment to remain at similar or higher levels in 2027. That supports the strategic direction, but it does not offset today’s earnings pressure.
Brazil has become a material setback, not just a temporary drag. Flutter closed its Brazilian operations on September 26, recorded an $873 million non-cash impairment, and cited a government measure banning online betting and gaming. The filing states, “We closed our operations on September 26, 2026 in accordance with the implementation of the Provisional Measure banning online betting and gaming.” 〔1〕 The charge is non-cash, but it confirms that a meaningful portion of the Brazil investment thesis has been written down and that the market’s regulatory outcome remains unresolved.
The guidance cut broadens the problem beyond Brazil. Flutter reduced its 2026 revenue midpoint by $300 million and adjusted EBITDA midpoint by $160 million, citing unfavorable sports results in both regions, the Brazil closure and weaker U.S. iGaming trends. International adjusted EBITDA also fell 14% in Q3 as the UK gaming-tax increase and adverse sports results offset growth in UKI, Southern Europe and CEE.
The balance-sheet response is defensive but sensible. Refinancing extends key maturities to 2032 and adds roughly $240 million of facility capacity, but leverage has risen to 4.6x from 3.7x at year-end. Pausing share repurchases while prioritizing deleveraging is therefore a change in capital allocation, not a sign of excess financial flexibility. The filing states, “While we focus on the delivery of these capital allocation priorities, we have paused the existing share repurchase program for the foreseeable future.” 〔2〕
Bottom line: Flutter is showing credible progress in repairing FanDuel and building prediction markets, but that progress is being outweighed by a clear earnings miss, lower guidance, Brazil-related value destruction and higher leverage. The business story is weakened, even if the longer-term strategy remains intact.
