Miss — Adj. EPS $0.52 vs ~$0.63 consensus
Adient earnings beat revenue expectations but missed on adjusted EPS, exposing weak earnings conversion despite stable Q4 EBITDA margins.
Adient is a global automotive-seating supplier trying to grow in Asia and capitalize on North American vehicle-production shifts while restructuring its higher-cost European footprint. Its recent operating story has been uneven: Asia has been the growth engine, while EMEA remains pressured by weak demand and overcapacity; restructuring is intended to reduce costs but is still being executed.
The quarter missed where it mattered most: earnings conversion. Q4 revenue of $3.73 billion exceeded the published consensus of roughly $3.60 billion, but adjusted diluted EPS was $0.52 versus approximately $0.63 expected. That is a meaningful earnings miss despite the top-line beat, and it means additional sales did not translate into the profit level the market was looking for.
| Metric | Q4 2026 | Q4 2025 | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Income Statement) | $3,730M (+1.1%) | $3,688M | ~$3,600M |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Adjusted EPS reconciliation) | $0.52 (flat) | $0.52 | ~$0.63 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (EBITDA reconciliation) | $229M (+1.3%) | $226M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (EBITDA reconciliation) | 6.1% | 6.1% | |
| Free cash flow (Free cash flow table) | $61M (-54.5%) | $134M |
Regional execution was mixed rather than broadly improving. Asia adjusted EBITDA rose to $136 million from $106 million, but Americas EBITDA fell to $85 million from $111 million while EMEA was essentially flat. That mix helps explain why revenue growth and a strong Asia result did not produce better consolidated margins; Adient's Q4 adjusted EBITDA margin remained 6.1%, unchanged from a year earlier.
The full-year picture is steadier than the quarterly miss, but not a clear acceleration. Fiscal-year adjusted EBITDA edged up to $884 million from $881 million and free cash flow improved to $222 million from $204 million, while adjusted diluted EPS declined to $1.87 from $1.93. Net leverage also moved slightly higher to 1.66x from 1.63x as year-end cash fell to $886 million from $958 million. The business is generating cash and has largely stabilized operating EBITDA, but the filing does not show expanding profitability or balance-sheet improvement sufficient to offset the quarterly earnings shortfall.
Bottom line: Adient delivered a revenue beat and solid annual cash generation, but the key quarterly earnings miss shows that growth is still not converting cleanly into profit. This modestly weakens the execution story rather than overturning it entirely.
