Beat — NII/share $0.68 vs ~$0.66 consensus
Blackstone Secured Lending Fund earnings narrowly beat estimates, but falling NII, lower NAV and 88% dividend coverage complicate the income story.
BXSL is a large, predominantly first-lien private-credit BDC navigating lower portfolio yields and recent credit stress; its second-quarter non-accrual rate had improved to 1.8% at fair value after rising to 3.1% in the first quarter. The market was looking for roughly $0.66-$0.67 of quarterly earnings per share, so the reported $0.68 cleared a lowered bar narrowly.
The earnings result was a narrow beat, not a reacceleration. Net investment income came in at $0.68 per share, above the roughly $0.66 consensus, but fell from $0.75 in the prior quarter and $0.82 a year earlier.
| 3Q 2026 | 2Q 2026 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| NII per share (Earnings Summary) | $0.68 | $0.75 | ~$0.66 |
| Regular dividend per share (Earnings Summary) | $0.77 | $0.77 | |
| Dividend coverage (Highlights) | 88% | 97% | |
| NAV per share (Financial Condition) | $25.25 | $25.53 | |
| Non-accruals at fair value (Highlights) | 2.1% | 1.8% |
The more important income signal is weaker dividend coverage. BXSL kept the quarterly dividend at $0.77, but current-quarter NII covered only 88% of that payout, versus 97% in the second quarter; the gap can be supported by previously retained income, but the quarter itself did not earn the distribution.
Credit metrics improved from the first-quarter shock but deteriorated sequentially. Non-accrual investments rose to 2.1% of fair value from 1.8% in the second quarter, while NAV per share fell to $25.25 from $25.53; that offsets the benefit of BXSL’s still-defensive portfolio construction, including 95.8% first-lien senior secured debt and 49.2% average loan-to-value. 〔0〕
Deleveraging adds balance-sheet resilience but also explains the slower income base. Repayments and sales of roughly $0.7 billion exceeded $0.2 billion of new investment fundings, reducing net funded investment activity by about $0.4 billion; liquidity remained substantial at $2.6 billion. This is constructive for liquidity and risk control, but it leaves BXSL with less earning assets while new investments are being originated at lower yields than the existing portfolio.
Bottom line: BXSL cleared the reduced earnings hurdle, but the business is not improving cleanly: income is declining, the dividend is under-covered by current-quarter earnings, and non-accruals edged higher. The result is modestly better than expectations, while the underlying income-and-credit trend remains mixed.
Fourth-quarter results, expected early February 2027
