Beat — GAAP EPS $0.52 vs ~$0.48 consensus; sales $359.5M vs ~$314.9M consensus
Trex earnings beat sharply on record sales, while another full-year guidance raise validates its distribution shift and Arkansas expansion.
Trex is shifting its distribution model, ramping its Arkansas plant, and trying to turn market-share gains into sustained growth; its prior quarter had already established strong demand and a $1.215B–$1.250B full-year revenue guide.
The quarter was far ahead of expectations on revenue and earnings. Net sales rose 26% to $359.5M, well above the published consensus of roughly $314.9M, while GAAP diluted EPS of $0.52 also exceeded consensus near $0.48. Trex says about $30M of revenue came from initial distribution load-in, so the headline growth includes a temporary channel benefit, but the underlying volume performance was still materially stronger than expected.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (GAAP Financial Statements) | $359.5M (+26.0%) | $285.3M | ~$314.9M consensus |
| Diluted EPS (GAAP Financial Statements) | $0.52 | $0.48 | ~$0.48 consensus |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Reconciliation) | $99.5M (+10.1%) | $90.4M | — |
| Gross margin (Q3 Financial Summary) | 36.0% | 40.5% | — |
| FY net sales guidance (Summary & Outlook) | $1.296B–$1.306B | — | $1.215B–$1.250B prior guide |
| FY adjusted EBITDA guidance (Summary & Outlook) | $355M–$360M | — | $335M–$350M prior guide |
The guidance increase is the more durable signal. Trex lifted full-year revenue and adjusted EBITDA ranges above the guidance reaffirmed in August, while the implied fourth-quarter revenue range is $175M–$185M. That says management believes the distribution transition and demand momentum are carrying beyond one unusually strong quarter. 〔0〕
Execution is strong, but the margin story is not clean yet. Gross margin fell to 36.0% from 40.5% because of diesel-related transportation costs, higher depreciation, and elevated Arkansas startup costs; management said a mechanical issue caused operational inefficiencies and has been resolved. Adjusted gross profit still increased to $132.7M from $117.1M, but the facility has not yet delivered the margin expansion Trex ultimately expects. 〔1〕
The cash and capital-allocation backdrop is supportive but more leveraged. Free cash flow remained high at $134.6M, and Trex repurchased about $55M of stock during the quarter while repaying $83M on its revolver. However, the balance sheet shows $170M drawn on the line of credit and only $3.3M of cash at September 30, so the aggressive buyback program is occurring alongside meaningful short-term borrowing.
Bottom line: This is a clear earnings beat with another guidance raise, strengthening Trex’s distribution-and-capacity expansion story. The main limitation is that part of the sales surge came from channel inventory placement, while Arkansas and gross margins still have to mature.
Arkansas reaches roughly 50% capacity by year-end
