Beat — Diluted EPS $0.84 vs ~$0.42 consensus
Circle earnings beat consensus, but the quarter’s sharp profit growth leaned on ARC token-sale revenue while reserve income declined.
Circle is trying to evolve from a USDC issuer into broader payments infrastructure, while also launching Arc as a new blockchain platform. Against that backdrop, Q3 delivered a headline beat—but the quality of that beat is mixed.
The quarter beat published expectations by a wide margin. Total revenue and reserve income reached $865 million versus public estimates clustered around roughly $800 million, while diluted EPS was $0.84 versus consensus near $0.42.

The earnings beat was heavily assisted by a one-time-looking ARC revenue surge. Other revenue jumped to $207 million, including $182 million from the ARC token presale, which explains most of the gap between modest net-income growth and the much larger 85% adjusted-EBITDA increase. The filing itself says adjusted EBITDA reflected “the ARC token presale revenue and lower distribution costs,” so this is not yet evidence that the underlying USDC earnings engine accelerated.
Core reserve economics weakened despite USDC growth. Average USDC in circulation rose 8%, but reserve income fell 8% because the reserve return rate declined 61 basis points to 3.5%. End-period USDC circulation was flat year over year, and stablecoin market share fell to 27%, down 183 basis points. That combination says the core franchise is growing usage and average balances, but remains exposed to lower interest income and competitive pressure.
The operating base is improving, but spending is rising to fund the next phase. Revenue less distribution costs rose 55% and its margin expanded to 52%, helped by lower distribution costs. However, operating expenses increased 16% and adjusted operating expenses rose 13%, reflecting investment in infrastructure, marketing, and new products. Circle also disclosed a workforce reduction of approximately 5%, suggesting it is trimming the organization while reallocating resources toward Arc and payments expansion.
The strategic story advanced, but execution remains ahead of monetization. Arc reached public mainnet, and the planned Tazapay acquisition would add more than $25 billion of annualized payment volume and payout rails across over 100 markets. Those moves strengthen Circle’s payments and infrastructure ambitions, but the acquisition is not expected to close until 2027 and Arc’s broader proof-of-stake roadmap is also future-dated.
Bottom line: Circle beat expectations, but the headline strength was inflated by ARC token-sale revenue while the core reserve-income engine weakened. The business story improves modestly because payments and Arc are advancing, not because recurring USDC economics clearly broke higher.
Tazapay acquisition closing, expected in 2027
