Beat — Adjusted EPS ex amortization $0.83 vs ~$0.81 consensus
IFF earnings modestly beat consensus, with stronger segment growth lifting the low end of 2026 sales and EBITDA guidance.
IFF is in the middle of a portfolio reset: it is separating the Food Ingredients business and concentrating the continuing company on Taste, Health & Biosciences, and Scent. The May transaction valued Food Ingredients at approximately $4.3 billion, while the remaining businesses are being positioned as a more focused platform with improved cash-flow characteristics.
The quarter cleared a modestly lowered market bar. Sales were $1.94 billion versus roughly $1.91 billion expected, while adjusted EPS ex amortization was $0.83 versus approximately $0.81 consensus. The underlying operating result was better than the headline GAAP loss suggests: adjusted operating EBITDA rose to $403 million from $384 million, with currency-neutral EBITDA up 6%.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales (Financial Highlights) | $1.94B (+4%) | $1.87B | ~$1.91B |
| Adjusted operating EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $403M (+5%) | $384M | |
| Adjusted EPS ex amortization (EPS reconciliation) | $0.83 | $0.76 | ~$0.81 |
| GAAP EPS from continuing operations (Income Statement) | $(0.50) | $0.39 |
Growth quality improved across the core segments. Scent was the standout, with currency-neutral sales up 6% and adjusted EBITDA up 10%; Taste also delivered 6% sales growth and 7% EBITDA growth. Health & Biosciences was only a modest contributor, with 1% sales growth and 2% EBITDA growth, matching the filing’s warning that fourth-quarter profitability will be softer there.
Management raised the floor, not the ceiling. Full-year sales guidance moved to $7.5 billion-$7.6 billion from $7.4 billion-$7.6 billion, and adjusted operating EBITDA guidance to $1.55 billion-$1.60 billion from $1.53 billion-$1.60 billion. The comparable currency-neutral growth floors also rose, to 3% for sales and 5% for EBITDA. 〔0〕
The headline GAAP loss is mostly portfolio-transition noise, but the costs are real. Continuing-operations pretax income was negative $134 million, driven heavily by a $236 million loss on assets classified as held for sale, plus $34 million of regulatory costs and $23 million of goodwill impairment. That does not undermine the adjusted-quarter beat, but it shows the separation and fragrance investigations are still creating substantial reported earnings drag.
Cash generation and capital returns support the restructuring story. Nine-month operating cash flow reached $820 million, up $288 million year over year, while IFF completed its planned $500 million accelerated share repurchase. The company is therefore executing the portfolio simplification while returning capital, although net debt remained $5.79 billion at quarter-end.
Bottom line: This was a modestly better-than-expected quarter with a meaningful guidance-floor increase, led by Scent and Taste. It strengthens IFF’s focused-company transition, but the benefit is incremental because fourth-quarter profitability is expected to soften and restructuring-related charges remain heavy.
