Beat — Adjusted diluted EPS $1.13 vs ~$1.02 consensus
Block earnings beat Q3 expectations, with adjusted EPS at $1.13 and 2026 gross profit and operating income guidance raised.
Block is trying to scale two connected fintech ecosystems—Square for merchants and Cash App for consumers—while using AI to improve product velocity and eventually create a new software business. Its prior plan already called for accelerating growth and substantial margin expansion, so the direction of this quarter was not a surprise; the magnitude was.
The quarter cleared both the company’s own bar and published expectations. Gross profit reached $3.24 billion, while adjusted operating income hit $923 million and adjusted diluted EPS reached $1.13. That compares with roughly $1.02 in published EPS expectations and about $6.62 billion of expected revenue; Block delivered $6.72 billion. The earnings beat was driven by real operating growth rather than just a favorable accounting item: Cash App gross profit grew 27%, Square gross profit grew 14%, and Square GPV accelerated to 14%.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide |

The more important signal is the raised forward bar. Block lifted 2026 gross profit guidance to $12.626 billion from its November 2025 Investor Day baseline of $11.980 billion, and adjusted operating income to $3.519 billion from $2.700 billion. It also set a preliminary 2027 outlook calling for at least 15% gross-profit growth and 30% adjusted operating-income growth to $4.575 billion. 〔0〕 This strengthens the existing story that Block is converting growth into margins faster than planned, rather than merely reporting a strong quarter and leaving the outlook unchanged.
Cash App and Square are both contributing, but lending remains the sharper execution test. Cash App reached 60 million monthly transacting actives and increased monetization, while Square posted its strongest GPV growth since early 2023. At the same time, transaction, loan, and consumer-receivable losses rose 66% year over year as lending volumes expanded. The company says loss rates and consumer-lending margins remain healthy, but the balance sheet is carrying more lending exposure: loans held for investment rose to $4.4 billion from $2.2 billion a year earlier. 〔1〕
AI is strategically interesting but not yet the earnings driver. Squaremates is generally available, Builderlab began customer pilots in October, and Block expects its first machine-intelligence revenue in Q4. That gives the AI narrative an initial commercial milestone, but the raised guidance does not rely on it; today’s financial delivery still comes from the established Square, Cash App, and lending engines. 〔2〕
Bottom line: This was a genuine earnings beat with a meaningful guidance raise, not just routine confirmation. Block’s core growth-and-margin story is strengthening, although the expanding lending book and rising credit-related expenses remain the main execution issue to monitor.
