Beat — Revenue $59.3M vs ~$56M consensus and $54.5–57.5M guidance
Ouster’s Q3 earnings beat revenue expectations and its own guide, but lower margins, continued losses and cash burn temper the Physical AI momentum.
Ouster is in the middle of a deliberate expansion from a lidar maker into a broader Physical AI platform, combining lidar with Stereolabs cameras, compute and perception software. The company acquired Stereolabs in February 2026 and launched Rev8 in May, so this quarter is an early test of whether those additions are translating into commercial scale.
Revenue execution was ahead of the bar. Third-quarter revenue reached $59.3 million, above the prior $54.5–57.5 million company outlook and roughly $56 million published consensus; that is a clear top-line beat, not just a favorable comparison with last year. The result also extends the growth trajectory the market already knew about: revenue rose 50% year over year and 9% sequentially.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total revenue (Financial Statements) | $59.3M (+50%) | $39.5M | ~$56M / $54.5–57.5M |
| GAAP EPS (Statements of Operations) | $(0.20) | $(0.37) | ~$(0.08) |
| GAAP gross margin (Gross Margin) | 43% | 42% | 49% Q2 2026 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Non-GAAP Reconciliation) | $(3.4M) | $(8.4M) | — |
| Operating cash flow (Cash Flow Statement) | $(49.4M) | $(24.5M) | — |
The platform story is gaining evidence, but the mix is changing fast. Ouster shipped more than 27,000 sensors, with lidar only about 27% of units, while management said Stereolabs cameras had a record shipment quarter and Rev8 demand was robust. That supports the broader camera-plus-lidar strategy, but it also means the quarter’s unit growth is not the same thing as a comparable acceleration in lidar demand. 〔0〕
Profitability was the main offset to the revenue beat. GAAP gross margin fell to 43% from 49% in the second quarter, and non-GAAP gross margin fell to 47% from 53%. The comparison is distorted because Q2 benefited from a one-time refund, but the quarter still did not show the margin expansion investors would want from rising volume. GAAP EPS also came in at a $0.20 loss versus published estimates near an $0.08 loss, making the overall earnings read mixed rather than cleanly positive. 〔1〕
The balance sheet is funded, but not yet self-funding. Ouster ended September with $90.3 million of cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash plus $330.9 million of short-term investments, helped by roughly $290 million of equity issuance during the first nine months. That gives the company room to invest in capacity and integration, but the nine-month operating cash burn nearly doubled to $49.4 million from $24.5 million, while weighted-average shares rose to 71.5 million from 58.0 million. The expansion is therefore being financed with substantial new equity while losses continue. 〔2〕
Bottom line: This is a genuine revenue beat and a useful validation of the broader Physical AI platform, but not a clean earnings win. Ouster is scaling faster, yet margin normalization, dilution and cash burn still leave the profitability transition unresolved.
