Sprout Social earnings beat as margins surge, growth slows

Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $0.45 vs ~$0.29 consensus

Sprout Social’s Q3 earnings beat expectations and lifted its margin outlook, while revenue growth and enterprise customer momentum moderated.

Sprout Social is repositioning its AI-powered social-intelligence platform toward larger enterprise customers while using its July 2026 workforce reduction to push the business toward profitability. The standing story was already shifting from growth at any cost to enterprise expansion plus operating leverage; the Q2 plan called for roughly 20% workforce cuts and higher profitability, while Q3 consensus was about $123.84 million of revenue and $0.29 of adjusted EPS.

The quarter beat materially, but the beat was mainly profitability-driven. Revenue reached $125.1 million, ahead of the published ~$123.84 million consensus, while non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.45 versus roughly $0.29 expected. The company also more than doubled non-GAAP operating income year over year, but the reconciliation shows $17.5 million of restructuring charges and lower stock-based compensation helped widen the reported non-GAAP margin.

The margin story improved sharply, and management raised the profitability bar. Sprout lifted its expected Q4 exit non-GAAP operating margin from 17% to approximately 18% and reaffirmed its plan to reach sustainable quarterly GAAP profitability beginning in Q4 2026. That is a genuine upgrade to the near-term operating model, although the quarter still produced a $6.5 million GAAP net loss and the reported profit benefit includes substantial restructuring adjustments. 〔0〕 〔1〕

Demand momentum was less convincing than the headline beat. Revenue growth slowed from 11% in Q2 to 8% in Q3, RPO growth eased to 10% from 16% in Q2, and the $30,000-plus ARR customer count was essentially flat sequentially at 3,925 versus 3,926. The larger-customer mix is improving over the year, but this filing does not show acceleration in the enterprise engine; it shows Sprout extracting much more profit from a slower-growth base.

The buyback reinforces the cash-generation pivot, not the growth thesis. Sprout repurchased $26.3 million of stock in Q3 under a new $50 million authorization, while non-GAAP free cash flow reached $26.7 million. That returns capital and offsets dilution, but it also consumed much of the quarter’s cash generation as cash and equivalents fell to $103.7 million from $119.9 million at June 30.

Bottom line: This is a clear earnings beat and a stronger profitability update, but not a renewed growth breakout. Sprout’s story is advancing toward a more efficient, cash-generative enterprise software model while revenue and customer momentum remain the key unresolved question.
