In line — No published consensus; diluted EPS $1.19 vs $0.69 prior year
Weyco Group’s Q3 earnings rose sharply and it declared another $2 special dividend, but tariff refunds remain central to the profit jump.
Weyco is a small branded-footwear company trying to build growth around Florsheim and stabilize its broader portfolio while navigating unusually volatile U.S. import tariffs. Its prior-quarter story already showed strong Florsheim demand and tariff-refund-driven profit expansion, but management also warned that the new 12.5% tariff regime could keep margins unpredictable.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Financial Highlights) | $77.0M (+5%) | $73.1M | |
| Gross margin (Financial Highlights) | 49.7% | 40.7% | |
| Earnings from operations (Financial Highlights) | $13.7M (+70%) | $8.1M | |
| Diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $1.19 (+72%) | $0.69 | |
| Australia sales (Other Operations) | $5.8M (-3%) | $6.0M |
The operating trend improved, but the headline profit growth is not purely recurring. Sales rose 5%, North American wholesale sales increased 6%, and Florsheim and Stacy Adams each grew 9%, confirming that the core North American business is gaining traction. The company said, “Florsheim continued its exceptional momentum, delivering another record-breaking quarter at wholesale.” 〔0〕
Tariff refunds did much of the margin work. Gross margin expanded to 49.7% from 40.7%, but the quarter included $3.3 million of tariff refunds tied to inventory previously recorded in the second quarter. That makes the earnings surge materially stronger than the underlying sales growth, while the company still says trade policy is creating “near-term gross margin uncertainty.”
The business is improving unevenly. North American wholesale and the Florsheim website are performing well, but Nunn Bush declined 1%, Australia’s local-currency sales fell 10%, and Australia’s operating loss widened to $0.4 million from $0.1 million. Selling and administrative costs also rose faster than sales, reaching 25% of wholesale revenue versus 23% a year earlier. Those offsets keep this from being a clean, broad-based acceleration.
The $2 special dividend reinforces Weyco’s cash-return model, not its growth investment story. The board declared the special dividend alongside the regular $0.28 quarterly dividend, payable January 8, 2027. This is meaningful for capital allocation, but it does not change the operating outlook or remove tariff exposure.
Bottom line: Weyco’s core North American footwear business is tracking better, led by Florsheim, but Q3’s profit jump was amplified by tariff refunds and remains exposed to changing trade policy. The event modestly improves the business story rather than rewriting it.
