Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (TARS) · Nov 3, 2026 · Earnings
Miss — Revenue $194.6M vs ~$187.8M consensus; GAAP EPS $(14.40) vs ~$(1.46)
Tarsus earnings show XDEMVY demand still beating expectations, while acquisition accounting drives a massive loss and weighs on liquidity.
Tarsus is shifting from a one-product commercial story into a broader eye-care platform: XDEMVY remains the growth engine, while the iRenix and Alkeus acquisitions add late-stage retina and infectious-disease programs. Management had already raised 2026 XDEMVY sales guidance to $685–705 million in August, so the core question here was whether commercial momentum could continue while the company absorbed those deals.
The commercial engine beat the market’s bar. Third-quarter revenue was $194.6 million, ahead of published expectations around $187.8 million, with product sales up 64% year over year to $194.6 million. XDEMVY prescribing breadth also expanded, with average daily prescribing ECPs up approximately 20% during the quarter. The result says the seasonal slowdown did not derail demand. 〔0〕

The headline earnings miss is mostly acquisition accounting, not a collapse in XDEMVY economics. Tarsus recorded $632.2 million of acquired in-process R&D expense from the iRenix and Alkeus transactions, producing a $668.3 million quarterly net loss and making the GAAP EPS comparison look dramatically worse than the underlying commercial performance. Gross margin held at approximately 93%, so the core product remains highly profitable before the company’s expanded development and corporate spending. 〔1〕
The business is advancing, but the platform build is consuming more capital and adding execution risk. R&D rose to $44.2 million and SG&A to $168.0 million as Tarsus funded Calliope, IRX-101, gildeuretinol, commercial expansion and integration. Cash and marketable securities fell to approximately $309.6 million at September 30 from roughly $417.3 million at year-end, while common shares outstanding increased to 49.3 million from 42.6 million. The filing therefore strengthens the growth story but makes the cost of that expansion harder to ignore.
The pipeline now has identifiable milestones rather than only early-stage optionality. Calliope enrollment is complete, with topline results expected in the first half of 2027, while IRX-101 is planned to enter Phase 3 during the same period. 〔2〕
Bottom line: This was a good XDEMVY quarter and a modest revenue beat, but not a clean earnings beat: acquisition charges obscure the operating result while higher spending and lower liquidity show that Tarsus is paying materially to become a multi-program eye-care company.
