Ardelyx earnings miss revenue estimates as IBSRELA growth slows

Miss — Total revenue $127.7M vs ~$128.7M consensus

Ardelyx earnings show continued IBSRELA growth and stronger cash, but Q3 revenue narrowly missed consensus as quarterly growth slowed.

Ardelyx is a commercial-stage biotech trying to turn IBSRELA and XPHOZAH into a durable revenue base while funding the ACCEL Phase 3 expansion of IBSRELA into chronic idiopathic constipation. Its prior update had already lowered 2026 IBSRELA guidance to $350–$370 million and pulled long-term XPHOZAH guidance, so the central question was whether IBSRELA demand could keep compounding fast enough to support the broader growth story.

The quarter was slightly below the market’s revenue bar. Total revenue reached $127.7 million versus published consensus of about $128.7 million, a narrow miss; the filing’s reported net loss of $0.7 million was better than the roughly $3.7 million loss implied by consensus EPS of $(0.0148), but revenue is the cleaner read-through for this commercial-stage company.

Total product sales (Income Statement)$125.5M (+18.9%)$105.5M

IBSRELA remains the main asset, but the growth rate is moderating. IBSRELA revenue grew 23% year over year to $96.3 million, while total product sales grew 19%; that is solid execution, but it is a deceleration from the 33% IBSRELA and 31% total product revenue growth reported in the second quarter. The quarter therefore supports the existing commercial story without materially strengthening it.

XPHOZAH is contributing less acceleration. XPHOZAH revenue increased only 7% year over year to $29.2 million, a much slower pace than IBSRELA and a less powerful offset to any moderation in the lead product. That matters because management has already withdrawn long-term XPHOZAH guidance while it assesses changing market dynamics.

The pipeline and intellectual-property updates improve the durability of the story, but are not near-term earnings catalysts. ACCEL enrollment finished ahead of schedule, with topline data still targeted for the second half of 2027. 〔0〕 The announced patent expected to expire in December 2041 also extends protection around both commercial formulations, strengthening the long-term commercial setup rather than changing current revenue. 〔1〕

Cash remains a meaningful cushion despite continued investment. Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments rose to $285.3 million from $264.7 million at year-end. The company still posted a nine-month net loss of $55.1 million and long-term debt rose to $252.4 million, so this is financial flexibility—not proof that profitability has arrived.

Bottom line: Ardelyx is still executing, but this quarter does not advance the story beyond expectations: IBSRELA growth remains healthy, XPHOZAH is slower, and total revenue narrowly missed the market’s bar. The earlier-than-planned ACCEL enrollment and patent extension add long-term support, making the overall read mixed but slightly negative rather than materially damaging.**
