Key Tronic Corp (KTCC) · Nov 3, 2026 · Earnings
Miss — Adjusted EPS $(0.72) vs $(0.10) a year ago; adjusted gross margin 4.2% vs 9.6%
Key Tronic earnings show strong backlog and new program wins, but liquidity-driven shipment delays caused a steep margin collapse and deeper losses.
Key Tronic is trying to turn its U.S.-and-Vietnam manufacturing expansion, China exit, and near-shoring strategy into profitable growth, but it entered this quarter with a fragile liquidity position and a business still dependent on financing working capital. Its fiscal 2026 filing already described supply-chain financing constraints as delaying shipments and said future growth depended on improving cash generation and accessing additional capital.
The quarter shows the liquidity problem is still constraining the business, not merely delaying timing. Revenue was essentially flat year over year at $98.7 million, but the company says financing constraints delayed approximately $18 million of shipments, mostly from Mexico and the United States. That means the large backlog is not yet converting into reported sales or operating leverage.
| Q1 FY2027 | Q1 FY2026 | Comparison | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Income Statement) | $98.7M | $98.8M | |
| Gross margin (Financial Highlights) | 2.5% | 8.4% | |
| Adjusted gross margin (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | 4.2% | 9.6% | |
| Net loss (Income Statement) | $(7.5)M | $(2.3)M | |
| Adjusted EPS (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $(0.72) | $(0.10) | |
| Backlog (Results release) | $245.9M | $139.7M |
The operational miss is much worse than the flat revenue headline suggests. Gross margin fell to 2.5% from 8.4%, while adjusted gross margin dropped to 4.2% from 9.6%. The company attributes the deterioration to production delays, higher material costs, excess labor, and inefficiencies at its Mexico and U.S. facilities; it also cites roughly $6 million of inventory sales with no margin contribution and $4.7 million of manufacturing cost variances recognized in cost of goods sold. 〔0〕
The backlog and program wins keep the long-term story alive, but they do not solve the immediate funding problem. Backlog reached $245.9 million, up 76% year over year, and new programs represented more than $60 million of potential annual revenue. Those figures support demand for the reshaped manufacturing footprint, but the quarter demonstrates that demand is currently ahead of the company’s ability to finance materials, production, and shipment timing.
The lack of second-quarter guidance increases uncertainty rather than offering a clean reset. Management still expects revenue growth and a return to profitability in the second half of fiscal 2027, while pursuing workforce reductions expected to save approximately $8 million annually. But it will not issue Q2 revenue or earnings guidance because of uncertain program ramps, macro conditions, and capital constraints. 〔1〕 There is no reliable published consensus for a company of this size, so the clearest benchmark is the pre-filing expectation of a rebound: this quarter moves materially against that expectation.
Bottom line: Key Tronic has real demand and a much larger backlog, but this filing shows that liquidity constraints are preventing that demand from becoming profitable revenue. The business story is still viable, but the near-term execution setback is substantial and the path back to profitability is now more dependent on financing and operational recovery than backlog alone.
