Fiserv earnings beat narrowly, but margins fall as savings plan doubles

Beat — Adjusted EPS $1.75 vs ~$1.72 consensus

Fiserv’s third-quarter earnings narrowly beat consensus, while flat organic revenue and shrinking margins put its $1 billion savings overhaul in focus.

Fiserv is still in a turnaround: rebuilding growth in Clover and banking while funding a broad technology and efficiency push after its earlier 2026 guidance reset. Management says banking attrition is improving and Clover processing remains healthy, but the reported business is still navigating weak Merchant Solutions growth and heavy transformation spending.

The quarter was a narrow execution beat, not a clean growth recovery. Adjusted EPS of $1.75 was slightly above the published consensus of roughly $1.72, while adjusted revenue of $4.85 billion was essentially in line. Organic revenue was flat overall: Financial Solutions returned to 2% growth, but Merchant Solutions declined 2%. The more important operating signal is that adjusted margin fell to 31.2% from 37.0%, with pressure in both major segments. Fiserv itself described the performance as “in line with our expectations.” 〔0〕

The biggest new development is a much larger cost-reset ambition. Project Elevate’s projected savings doubled to $1 billion from $500 million, which gives Fiserv more room to defend profitability but also confirms that management sees a substantial efficiency problem to fix. The quarter included $158 million of One Fiserv transformation expense and $83 million of severance, while nine-month free cash flow fell to $2.04 billion from $2.88 billion.

Reaffirmed guidance supports the turnaround case, but does not upgrade it. Fiserv maintained its 2026 outlook for organic revenue of negative 1% to flat and adjusted EPS of $7.20 to $7.40—already the standing expectation after the prior reset. Resuming $500 million of fourth-quarter buybacks is a confidence signal, but it comes alongside revenue contraction, lower segment margins and a $6.45 billion goodwill impairment tied to sustained declines in market capitalization.

Bottom line: Fiserv delivered a small earnings beat and showed a better Financial Solutions trend, but the underlying story remains a costly turnaround rather than a renewed growth cycle. Doubling the savings target is meaningful, yet it highlights how much execution is still required to restore margins and sustained organic growth.
