ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. (ADTN) · Nov 3, 2026 · Earnings
Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $0.09 vs ~$0.04 consensus
ADTRAN’s Q3 earnings beat on EPS, but flat revenue, weak cash flow and below-consensus Q4 guidance keep the recovery story uneven.
ADTRAN is trying to turn its optical-networking business into a higher-growth platform for hyperscalers, AI infrastructure, enterprise networks and critical infrastructure, while its legacy service-provider markets remain uneven. Its Q2 update had already established strong optical demand and expanding cloud/hyperscaler engagement, so this filing mainly tests whether that strategy is translating into broad revenue and cash-flow improvement.
The quarter beat on adjusted earnings, but not on revenue. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $0.09 versus published consensus of roughly $0.04, while revenue was $281.2 million versus roughly $285.7 million consensus. The earnings beat came alongside essentially flat revenue and a lower operating-margin profile than a year ago: non-GAAP operating margin was 5.0% versus 5.4% in Q3 2025.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $281.2M (+0.6%) | $279.4M | $285.7M |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $0.09 | $0.05 | $0.04 |
| Non-GAAP operating margin (Financial Highlights) | 5.0% | 5.4% | |
| Free cash flow (Cash Flow Reconciliation) | $(39.4)M | $(4.8)M | |
| Q4 revenue guidance (Business outlook) | $272.0M–$292.0M | $292.9M |
The strategic mix is improving, but it is not yet lifting the total business. Optical networking revenue rose 11% year over year and hyperscale revenue more than doubled, while enterprise, government and cloud revenue grew 44% to 28% of total revenue. Those are meaningful signs that ADTRAN is gaining traction in the markets it is targeting. 〔0〕 〔1〕 But subscriber solutions fell 13% year over year, regional service-provider revenue fell 15%, and total revenue still grew only 0.6%, showing that newer growth pockets are currently offsetting weakness elsewhere rather than creating clear company-wide acceleration.
Margins remain dependent on temporary help and execution that has not arrived yet. Non-GAAP gross margin recovered to 42.1% from 40.7% in Q2, but management said about 200 basis points came from IEEPA tariff refunds, with a much smaller benefit expected in Q4. Product mix, tight supply and component inflation remain pressure points, while the company is still relying on cost savings and pricing actions to move toward its long-term 10% non-GAAP operating-margin target.
Cash conversion is the clearest deterioration. The quarter used $24.5 million of operating cash and produced negative free cash flow of $39.4 million, while cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash fell to $71.7 million. Receivables and inventory increased, and the presentation showed DSO rising to 77 days from 67 days in Q2. That makes the recovery more operationally demanding: ADTRAN is growing its targeted businesses, but it is also consuming cash while waiting for billing, collections and project timing to normalize.
Q4 guidance is the main negative read-through. The $272 million–$292 million revenue range has a midpoint well below the roughly $292.9 million published consensus and implies that seasonal weakness, supply availability and the timing of large projects will continue to constrain the near-term recovery. The range does not overturn the optical and hyperscale growth story, but it says that story is still not broad or dependable enough to support the acceleration the market was expecting.
Bottom line: ADTRAN is gaining real traction in optical, hyperscale and enterprise markets, and it beat on adjusted EPS. But below-consensus Q4 revenue guidance, weak cash flow and lingering margin pressure leave the broader turnaround mixed and slightly weaker than expected overall.
