Beat — Adjusted EPS $3.68 vs ~$3.54 consensus
Eaton’s third-quarter earnings beat consensus, with record orders, stronger margins and higher 2026 organic-growth guidance reinforcing its electrification story.
Eaton is in the middle of a major portfolio shift: scaling its Electrical businesses around electrification, data-center infrastructure and grid demand, while building Aerospace and preparing to separate Mobility. Its prior full-year 2026 framework called for 11%–13% organic growth and $13.40–$13.60 of adjusted EPS, so this release is judged against an already-strong growth story rather than a low bar.
The quarter cleared both the Street’s earnings bar and Eaton’s own operating targets. Adjusted EPS of $3.68 exceeded the published consensus of roughly $3.54, while revenue of $8.947 billion topped the roughly $8.53 billion expectation. The filing says adjusted earnings per share were a record of $3.68.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Income Statement) | $8.947B (+28%) | $6.988B | ~$8.53B |
| Adjusted EPS (Earnings reconciliation) | $3.68 (+19.9%) | $3.07 | ~$3.54 |
| Segment operating margin (Results release) | 25.3% (+30 bps) | 25.0% | — |
| Operating cash flow (Cash flow reconciliation) | $1.310B | — | — |
| Free cash flow (Cash flow reconciliation) | $1.034B | — | — |
The quality of the beat is better than the headline EPS number. Organic sales grew 19%, above the company’s prior framework, and segment margins reached a record 25.3%, 30 basis points above the high end of guidance. 〔0〕 The strongest evidence is in the core Electrical businesses: Electrical Americas grew organically 22% with a 29.8% margin, while Electrical Global grew organically 27% and added the full-quarter effect of Boyd Thermal. That means the result was not just acquisition-driven, even though acquisitions contributed 8% to companywide sales growth.
Demand indicators strengthened enough to lift the company’s trajectory. Twelve-month rolling organic orders rose 39% in Electrical Americas, 51% in Electrical Global and 20% in Aerospace, with record order dollars in all three; total backlog increased 33% year over year. This advances Eaton’s central electrification and infrastructure thesis because bookings are accelerating ahead of reported sales, especially in the businesses most exposed to data-center and grid investment. The filing also says operating cash flow was $1.31 billion and free cash flow was $1.03 billion.
Guidance moved up on growth, not merely on accounting adjustments. Eaton raised full-year organic-growth guidance to 13%–15% from the prior 11%–13% range and lifted adjusted EPS guidance to $13.70–$13.80 from $13.40–$13.60; the new midpoint is also above the published consensus of about $13.60. The fourth-quarter adjusted EPS range of $4.05–$4.15 implies continued execution, although Aerospace margin pressure and the heavy acquisition program remain the main complications.
The balance sheet and portfolio transition are still the offsets, not the main story today. Debt is materially higher after the Boyd Thermal and Ultra PCS acquisitions, and acquisition-related charges reached $394 million through nine months. Mobility’s planned separation remains a future execution event, while the newly announced $921 million COL Group acquisition adds more European electrical-distribution capacity but also another integration obligation. These factors temper the result, but they do not outweigh the broad-based order acceleration, margin outperformance and raised growth outlook.
Bottom line: This was a clearly better-than-expected quarter that strengthens Eaton’s existing electrification-led growth story. The important change is not just the EPS beat; it is that bookings, margins and full-year organic-growth expectations all moved higher together.
Mobility-Dana transaction expected to close by April 2027
