Teva earnings beat as innovative brands offset generic-drug slide

Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $0.86 vs ~$0.72 consensus

Teva’s Q3 earnings beat expectations, with margin expansion and higher 2026 outlooks for AUSTEDO, AJOVY and UZEDY offsetting generic pressure.

Teva is in the middle of a business shift: moving away from dependence on commoditized generics while building a higher-margin innovative-medicine portfolio around AUSTEDO, AJOVY, UZEDY and new launches such as WELTRUZA. The quarter advances that transition, though it does not erase the pressure in the U.S. generics business.

The underlying quarter beat the market’s bar. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $0.86 versus a published consensus of roughly $0.72, while revenue was $4.395 billion versus roughly $4.23 billion expected. The quality of the beat was mainly operational: gross margin expanded to 55.5% from 51.4%, and non-GAAP operating margin reached 31.7% from 28.9%.

The innovative portfolio is doing the strategic work Teva needs. AUSTEDO revenue rose 21%, AJOVY rose 88% in the U.S., and UZEDY rose 96%; together, the three brands generated about $1.1 billion and grew 33% in local currency. Teva responded by raising the full-year revenue outlook for all three brands, while also lifting total revenue guidance to $16.7–$17.0 billion from $16.5–$16.85 billion and free-cash-flow guidance to $2.1–$2.4 billion from $2.0–$2.4 billion.

The main drag remains U.S. generics, not weak demand across the franchise. U.S. segment revenue fell 11%, with generic revenue down 39% as competition eroded lenalidomide sales; U.S. generic prescriptions also declined to 5.8% of the market from 6.7%. That deterioration is material, but Europe and international markets both grew and delivered higher segment profit, while the innovative products improved the group’s product mix.

Reported profit is less clean than the adjusted result. GAAP diluted EPS fell to $0.20 from $0.37, operating income declined to $714 million from $882 million, and financial expenses included a $224 million debt-extinguishment loss. The company also recorded higher legal provisions and asset impairments, so the beat depends heavily on excluding unusually large items; that limits how much the quarter changes the longer-term story.

Bottom line: This is a genuine earnings beat with better margins and stronger growth-brand momentum, enough to reinforce Teva’s pivot toward innovative medicines. It matters, but the U.S. generic decline and elevated exceptional charges keep it from being a full business-model reset.
