Beat — Adjusted EPS $0.87 vs ~$0.72 consensus
Pfizer earnings beat Q3 expectations as non-COVID products grew 7% operationally, helping lift full-year revenue and adjusted EPS guidance.
Pfizer is still navigating the post-COVID revenue reset while trying to rebuild growth around oncology, obesity, vaccines and newer acquired products; its broader cost-realignment effort is being used to fund that pipeline and improve efficiency.
The quarter cleared the market’s bar. Adjusted diluted EPS was $0.87 versus a published consensus of roughly $0.72, while revenue was $16.6 billion versus expectations around $16.1 billion. The headline revenue result was flat year over year, but the underlying mix was better: excluding Comirnaty and Paxlovid, revenue grew 7% operationally, and launched and acquired products grew 32% operationally. 〔0〕
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $16.583B | $16.654B | ~$16.1B consensus |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $0.87 | $0.87 | ~$0.72 consensus |
| FY 2026 revenue guidance (Guidance) | $62.0B–$64.0B | — | $60.5B–$62.5B prior guide |
| FY 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance (Guidance) | $2.95–$3.05 | — | $2.80–$3.00 prior guide |
The guidance increase is the more important signal. Pfizer raised both full-year revenue and adjusted EPS ranges, suggesting management is carrying the quarter’s stronger commercial execution into the rest of the year rather than treating the beat as a one-off.
The growth engine is improving, but the portfolio is not broadly healthy yet. Eliquis, Padcev, Vyndaqel, Nurtec and Lorbrena were strong, with Padcev revenue up 55% operationally and Eliquis up 25%, while COVID products, Prevnar and several mature brands declined. Paxlovid fell 63% and Comirnaty fell 29% operationally, so Pfizer’s positive read depends on newer and acquired products increasingly offsetting the continuing COVID unwind. 〔1〕
The quarter also shows continued investment rather than pure cost harvesting. R&D expense rose 18% operationally, driven by oncology and obesity candidates, while Pfizer recorded a $650 million acquired in-process R&D charge tied to Innovent. That depresses reported earnings, but the larger message is that Pfizer is spending behind the pipeline it needs to replace aging and COVID-era revenue.
Bottom line: This is a clear execution beat with a meaningful guidance lift, not merely a favorable presentation of flat revenue. Pfizer’s business story is improving as newer products gain traction, although the company still has to prove that this growth can fully replace COVID and other mature-product declines.
