Beat — diluted EPS $0.18 vs ~$0.16 consensus; revenue $83.3M vs ~$82.24M
HealthStream earnings beat Q3 revenue and EPS expectations, while higher costs pressured margins even as full-year guidance moved higher.
HealthStream is expanding its hStream healthcare-workforce platform while integrating the Virsys12 and MissionCare acquisitions into credentialing, provider-data, and workforce solutions. That strategy was already underway; this quarter tests whether the added scale is translating into profitable growth.
The quarter beat the published bar. Revenue reached $83.3 million and diluted EPS was $0.18, ahead of estimated revenue of roughly $82.24 million and EPS of roughly $0.16. The revenue increase was helped by $3.2 million from the 2025 acquisitions and $3.6 million from the existing portfolio, so the underlying business contributed meaningful growth rather than the entire gain coming from deal consolidation.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus / prior guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Financial Highlights) | $83.3M (+8.9%) | $76.5M | $82.24M |
| Diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $0.18 | $0.20 | ~$0.16 |
| Operating income (Financial Highlights) | $6.6M (-13.0%) | $7.6M | — |
| Net income (Financial Highlights) | $5.4M (-11.7%) | $6.1M | — |
| FY26 revenue guidance (Financial Outlook) | $331M–$333M | — | $327M–$332M |
| FY26 net income guidance (Financial Outlook) | $21.8M–$22.4M | — | $19.5M–$22.2M |
| FY26 adjusted EBITDA guidance (Financial Outlook) | $77M–$78M | — | $74M–$78M |
The guidance raise is the more important signal. Revenue guidance moved up at both ends, net-income guidance moved materially higher at the low end, and adjusted EBITDA guidance tightened upward from $74 million–$78 million to $77 million–$78 million. That suggests management sees enough demand and execution to lift the year's floor, not merely repeat its previous outlook.
Profit conversion remains the caveat. Quarterly operating income and net income declined despite revenue growth because HealthStream is spending more on its platform and enterprise applications, while acquisition amortization and cybersecurity-related costs added pressure. The company describes the investments as supporting future scale, but this quarter shows the near-term cost of that strategy.
The balance sheet gives the expansion plan more room. HealthStream ended September with $115.2 million of cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities and no borrowed debt; the previously disclosed $40 million private placement provides additional funding for platform investment and potential acquisitions, though it also increases the share base.
Bottom line: This was a modest execution beat with a real guidance raise, strengthening HealthStream's growth story. The offset is that investments and integration costs are still weighing on quarterly profitability, so the business is advancing faster than its margins are.
