Tennant Co (TNC) · Nov 2, 2026 · Earnings
Beat — Adj. EPS $1.40 vs ~$0.98 consensus; sales $322.3M vs ~$330.75M
Tennant earnings beat on adjusted EPS while revenue missed expectations; robotics and backlog improved, but margins and cash flow remain strained.
Tennant is still working through the North America ERP disruption while trying to turn robotics into a meaningful growth engine; the prior quarter had already established healthy orders and backlog alongside slower-than-expected margin recovery.
The quarter beat on adjusted earnings but missed on sales. Adjusted diluted EPS was $1.40 versus a published consensus near $0.98, while revenue was $322.3 million versus roughly $330.75 million expected. That makes this an earnings beat, but not a clean operating beat: sales growth was solid, yet below the market’s bar.
| Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales (Financial Highlights) | $322.3M (+6.2%) | $303.3M | ~$330.75M |
| Adjusted diluted EPS (Financial Highlights) | $1.40 (-4.1%) | $1.46 | ~$0.98 |
| Adjusted EBITDA (Financial Highlights) | $48.8M (-2.0%) | $49.8M | |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin (Financial Highlights) | 15.1% (-130 bps) | 16.4% | |
| Operating cash flow (Cash Flow statement) | $11.9M | $28.7M |
Demand and the robotics strategy are advancing. Orders rose 9.5%, backlog remained about $118 million, and robotics revenue jumped 71% to approximately $37.3 million. Those are meaningful signs that the product transition is gaining traction, particularly in North America, even though reported revenue still fell short of expectations.
Profitability recovery is progressing, but remains incomplete. Adjusted EBITDA improved 420 basis points sequentially, yet fell 2% year over year despite higher volume, pricing and a $6.1 million tariff refund. Excluding that refund, gross margin was approximately 40.4%, down 230 basis points, with parts shortages, inflation and production inefficiencies still absorbing much of the growth benefit. 〔0〕
The balance-sheet and cash-conversion picture is the main drag. Nine-month operating cash flow turned negative at $14.3 million versus $50.8 million of inflow a year earlier, while long-term debt rose to $358.3 million from $273.2 million. Management reaffirmed full-year guidance rather than raising it, so the filing confirms stabilization but does not yet show that the ERP and margin problems are fully behind the company. 〔1〕
Bottom line: Tennant delivered a better-than-expected profit quarter, but the revenue miss and continuing margin and cash-flow strain keep this from being a clean recovery signal. The business is moving forward on orders and robotics, while execution remains only partly repaired.**
