Beat — Non-GAAP EPS $4.34 vs ~$4.19 consensus; revenue $1.474B vs ~$1.40B
Fabrinet earnings beat Q1 guidance and consensus on record revenue, while heavy capacity investment pushed free cash flow deeply negative.
Fabrinet is a fast-growing outsourced manufacturer increasingly tied to data-center and communications-infrastructure demand: those markets represented roughly 81% of fiscal 2026 revenue, with data center alone at 47.9%. This quarter says that demand is still converting into actual production, not merely future program optimism.
The operating beat was broad and substantial. Revenue reached $1.474 billion, about 50.7% above the year-ago quarter and above both the company’s prior $1.375–$1.425 billion guide and published consensus near $1.40 billion. Non-GAAP diluted EPS was $4.34, ahead of the prior $4.10–$4.25 guide and consensus near $4.19. Management attributed the result to broad demand across significant programs and new product ramps, not a single isolated item. 〔0〕
| Metric | Q1 FY2027 | Q1 FY2026 | Consensus / prior guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue (Income Statement) | $1,474.5M (+50.7%) | $978.1M | ~$1,400M consensus; $1,375–$1,425M guide |
| GAAP diluted EPS (Income Statement) | $2.86 (+7.5%) | $2.66 | — |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $4.34 (+48.6%) | $2.92 | ~$4.19 consensus; $4.10–$4.25 guide |
| GAAP operating margin (Operating profit reconciliation) | 9.9% | 9.6% | — |
| Non-GAAP free cash flow (Free cash flow reconciliation) | $(137.4)M | $57.3M | — |
The quality of the earnings beat is good, but not completely clean. Operating margin improved despite rapid growth, yet gross margin slipped to 11.8% from 11.9% on a GAAP basis and to 12.1% from 12.3% on a non-GAAP basis. GAAP EPS also understates the underlying operating result because a $21.5 million non-marketable-equity revaluation charge and a $19.9 million Pillar Two tax provision were excluded from non-GAAP results. Those are unusual items rather than evidence of an operating collapse, but they make the adjusted EPS comparison more useful than GAAP EPS for this quarter.
The main cost of the acceleration is cash conversion. Operating cash flow fell to $21.3 million from $102.6 million while capital spending surged to $158.7 million, producing negative free cash flow of $137.4 million. That reflects a major capacity build rather than weaker reported demand, but it means Fabrinet is spending heavily to support the ramps before the investment shows up as cash generation. The company also drew $74.8 million of long-term borrowings during the quarter.
Capital returns remain supportive but secondary. The board added $103 million to the repurchase authorization, bringing the aggregate authorization to $637.3 million. That offsets some dilution and signals balance-sheet confidence, but it does not change the central story: execution and capacity expansion are driving the quarter.
Bottom line: This is a clear operating beat that strengthens Fabrinet’s data-center and optical manufacturing growth story. The only meaningful complication is that the company is converting the demand into heavy capital spending faster than it is converting earnings into free cash flow. «cite»turn559246search12»«/cie»
