Miss — GAAP EPS $(0.86) vs ~$0.01 consensus
Vitesse Energy earnings showed revenue ahead of consensus, but a hedge-driven loss and higher debt offset the DJ Basin growth push.
Vitesse is a dividend-focused, non-operating oil-and-gas owner expanding through acquisitions and new well development; its 2026 strategy has already included the Powder River Basin deal, with the DJ Basin acquisition now adding another growth leg.
The operating outlook improved, but only modestly. Vitesse raised the low end of 2026 production guidance from 16,300 to 16,600 Boe per day while keeping the high end at 17,200, a sign that the DJ Basin acquisition and accelerated drilling are beginning to add output. The trade-off is a sharp increase in drilling and completion capital spending to $80 million-$90 million from $65 million-$80 million. 〔0〕

| Revenue (Financial and Operating Results) | $82.95M (+23%) | $67.44M | ~$76.98M |
| GAAP EPS (Income Statement) | $(0.86) | $(0.03) | ~$0.01 |
| Adjusted net income (Non-GAAP reconciliation) | $2.53M | ||
| Annual production guidance (Guidance) | 16,600-17,200 Boe/d | 16,300-17,200 | |
| Drilling and completion capex guidance (Guidance) | $80M-$90M | $65M-$80M |
Revenue beat the published benchmark, but earnings missed badly. Reported revenue of $82.95 million exceeded the roughly $76.98 million consensus, but the quarter swung to a $36.4 million GAAP loss, or $(0.86) per share, versus the market’s expectation for a small profit. The main distortion was a $58.6 million commodity-derivative loss, including a $46.6 million unrealized loss; adjusted net income was still $2.5 million.
The acquisition is advancing the growth story, but the balance-sheet burden is rising. Vitesse spent $26.9 million on development capital and $26.2 million on oil-and-gas properties in the quarter, while revolver borrowings increased to $190.5 million from $124.5 million at year-end. Liquidity fell to $85.2 million from $117.4 million at the end of the second quarter, making the higher capital program more consequential even though trailing leverage remained 1.3x adjusted EBITDA.
The dividend-supporting cash-flow case is intact, but less clean than management’s framing. Free cash flow was positive at $9.4 million, and hedges cover much of the remaining 2026 production, but quarterly free cash flow was small relative to the combined development and acquisition spending. Management says its hedge portfolio supports the dividend and targets leverage at or below 1.0x, yet the quarter ended above that target. 〔1〕
Bottom line: Vitesse is executing the acquisition-and-production expansion, but the improvement came with higher capital needs, more borrowing, and a sharp hedge-driven earnings loss. The filing modestly advances the operating story while weakening the near-term financial picture.
