Beat — Revenue $259.7M vs ~$249.2M consensus; EPS $(0.25) vs ~$(0.63) consensus
Axsome’s Q3 earnings beat revenue and EPS expectations, with Auvelity growth and Alzheimer’s prescriptions accelerating while cash burn remains contained.
Axsome is moving from a launch-heavy CNS biotech toward a scaled commercial platform: AUVELITY is carrying the business while the company expands into Alzheimer’s agitation, grows SUNOSI and SYMBRAVO, and funds a broad late-stage pipeline. The quarter strengthens that transition more than the headline growth alone suggests.
The quarter beat the published bar on both revenue and loss. Total revenue reached $259.7 million versus a published consensus of roughly $249.2 million, while the $0.25 per-share loss was materially narrower than the roughly $0.63 loss expected. The revenue beat was partly helped by $8.5 million of SUNOSI milestone revenue, so the underlying product-sales result was closer to expectations than the headline total; nevertheless, the combination of 52% revenue growth and better-than-expected earnings shows operating leverage beginning to appear.

The most important new information is that Alzheimer’s adoption is becoming visible in prescriptions. Total AUVELITY prescriptions rose 14% sequentially and new-to-brand prescriptions rose 21%; among patients aged 65 and older, new starts increased 99% sequentially. That directly supports the commercial thesis established when the Alzheimer’s indication launched in June, rather than merely repeating the established major-depression growth story. 〔0〕 〔1〕
The growth is broadening without a new financing signal. AUVELITY sales grew 53%, SUNOSI revenue 47%, and SYMBRAVO sales 88% year over year, while cash declined only modestly from year-end despite higher commercialization and clinical spending. Management again says current cash should fund operations into cash-flow positivity, consistent with the prior quarter’s runway message rather than a fresh financing need. The trade-off is that SG&A rose to $203.1 million and R&D to $50.6 million, so profitability still depends on revenue continuing to outrun launch and pipeline investment. 〔2〕
The pipeline remains a future catalyst set, not a current-quarter value driver. The filing adds no major clinical readout, but it keeps the next material milestones visible: ENGAGE results in the first quarter of 2027 and the AXS-12 FDA decision on May 1, 2027. That makes the quarter’s real contribution commercial execution, with pipeline optionality intact rather than newly de-risked.
Bottom line: This was a meaningful execution beat: revenue and EPS exceeded expectations, and the early Alzheimer’s launch is accelerating rather than merely holding the core business steady. The broader story is advancing, although sustained growth must still absorb heavy commercialization and clinical spending.
