Beat — Diluted EPS $4.01 vs ~$3.73 consensus
IDEXX earnings beat Q3 consensus and lifted its revenue and EPS outlook, though acquisition costs and investment lowered the full-year margin range.
IDEXX is in the middle of extending its diagnostics-led veterinary platform: recurring CAG Diagnostics revenue remains the core engine, while inVue Dx, Cancer Dx, software and the new CoVet AI assistant are meant to deepen practice utilization. The prior quarter had already established a healthy trajectory, with management raising 2026 organic-growth and EPS guidance on strong recurring diagnostics demand.
The quarter beat a relatively modest market bar. Revenue reached $1.214 billion versus published consensus of roughly $1.19 billion, while diluted EPS of $4.01 exceeded consensus near $3.73. The underlying result was also solid: organic revenue grew 10%, CAG Diagnostics recurring revenue grew 11%, and operating margin expanded to 33.1%. 〔0〕

Management raised the revenue and earnings bar because the operating engine is running ahead of plan. The midpoint of the full-year revenue range rose by about $32 million, organic-growth guidance increased by 0.6 percentage points at midpoint, and EPS guidance rose by roughly $0.25 at midpoint. That is a genuine improvement to the business outlook, not merely a currency benefit: management explicitly attributed the organic-growth increase to operational performance. 〔1〕
The offset is lower full-year margin guidance. The margin range fell to 32.1%–32.3% from 32.3%–32.5%, reducing expected expansion to 50–70 basis points from 70–90 basis points. IDEXX is spending more on commercial capacity, innovation and the CoVet integration; the filing therefore says growth is accelerating, but some of that upside is being reinvested rather than flowing through immediately to profit. 〔2〕
The core business looks healthier than the headline margin trim suggests. CAG Diagnostics recurring revenue grew 11%, including 14% organic growth internationally and 10% in the United States, while software, services and imaging revenue grew 10% organically. EPS also benefited from a $0.03 equity-investment gain, a $0.01 tax benefit and $0.04 from currency, so the reported EPS beat is somewhat flattered; however, the comparable EPS increase was still 22%, keeping the operating read clearly positive.
Bottom line: IDEXX delivered a real earnings beat and upgraded its growth and EPS outlook, reinforcing the recurring-diagnostics and innovation story. The lower margin guide makes this a modestly positive update rather than a clean re-rating of the whole trajectory, but the business is executing ahead of the prior plan.
