Special committee expanded
Cable One’s director change adds restructuring expertise to a committee weighing strategic alternatives, sharpening the focus on MBI and the balance sheet.
Cable One is a rural broadband operator trying to shift away from shrinking video revenue while dealing with weaker operating results, heavy debt and the uncertainty around acquiring the remaining stake in Mega Broadband Investments. Second-quarter 2026 adjusted EBITDA fell to $173.5 million from $203.2 million a year earlier, while the company has been working through a financing solution after a court temporarily blocked the MBI purchase.
This is more than a routine board expansion. Cable One increased the board from eight directors to nine and appointed Paul Keglevic immediately. 〔0〕 His background includes serving as CEO and chief restructuring officer of Energy Future Holdings. 〔1〕
The strategic-alternatives process now has more restructuring and creditor-side expertise. Keglevic was specifically added to the special committee evaluating strategic alternatives, not merely to a standing board committee. 〔2〕 That makes the review look more consequential and better equipped to handle financing, asset-sale, ownership or restructuring choices, although it does not announce any transaction or recommendation.
The signal is therefore two-sided. Adding a restructuring veteran is prudent given Cable One’s MBI dispute and debt obligations, but the choice also underscores that the company’s situation has moved beyond ordinary operational improvement. The filing gives no evidence that a strategic alternative has been selected, so the immediate change is process credibility—not a business resolution.
Bottom line: Cable One is preparing its board for a potentially complex strategic or balance-sheet decision. The appointment matters because it strengthens the review process, but it is not itself a deal, financing, or restructuring outcome.
