$1B buyback — $560.3M spent of $1.0B authorization
News Corp’s buyback has now used about $560 million of its $1 billion authorization. The daily filing confirms continued repurchases, not a new capital-allocation move.
News Corp is in the middle of a profitable shift toward recurring, digital information and real-estate services, with Dow Jones, Digital Real Estate Services and Book Publishing driving growth; fiscal 2026 ended with record revenue and profitability, while operating cash flow reached $1.24 billion.
This is continued execution, not a new decision. The filing reports that News Corp has spent approximately $560.3 million under its already-authorized $1 billion 2025 Repurchase Program, leaving roughly $439.7 million of capacity. 〔0〕
| Measure | 29 Oct 2026 | Cumulative / authorization |
|---|---|---|
| Shares repurchased (Buy-back notification) | 25,457 | 6,392,773 |
| Consideration paid (Buy-back notification) | $820,614 | $191.1M |
| Repurchase authorization (Buy-back description) | $1.0B | |
| Amount used (Buy-back notification) | $560.3M | |
| Estimated remaining capacity | $439.7M |
The business impact is modest but directionally supportive. Returning cash is consistent with News Corp’s recent capital-allocation posture: its fiscal 2026 results highlighted an accelerated buyback alongside stronger cash generation. But the authorization was established previously, the repurchases are discretionary and market-dependent, and the filing introduces no larger program, new terms or change in strategy. 〔1〕
The ASX notice does not expand the eligible securities. News Corp says the program covers Nasdaq-listed Class A and Class B shares, not ASX-listed CDIs. 〔2〕
Bottom line: This confirms that News Corp is steadily deploying cash through a previously known buyback, but it does not materially change the company’s operating or capital-allocation story today.
