Beat — Adjusted EPS $2.56 vs ~$2.42 consensus
Bunge’s Q3 earnings beat consensus on stronger soybean and softseed processing, while grain weakness and heavy working-capital use remain the tension.
Bunge is in the execution phase of its Viterra integration, using a larger global oilseed network to improve processing economics while bringing new capacity online, including the Destrehan oilseed line. The quarter adds evidence that the expanded processing platform is working, but the benefit is uneven across the portfolio.
The operating beat came from the core processing businesses. Adjusted EPS rose to $2.56 from $2.27 and exceeded the published consensus of about $2.42, while adjusted total EBIT increased to $846 million from $757 million. Soybean processing EBIT climbed to $547 million from $337 million, and softseed processing EBIT rose to $353 million from $236 million; Bunge said North America processing was the largest contributor to the improvement. 〔0〕
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q3 2025 | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjusted EPS | $2.56 | $2.27 | ~$2.42 |
| Net sales (Financial Statements) | $23,804M | $22,155M | ~$23,300M |
| Adjusted total EBIT (Financial Highlights) | $846M | $757M | |
| Soybean processing EBIT (Segment results) | $547M | $337M | |
| Softseed processing EBIT (Segment results) | $353M | $236M | |
| Grain merchandising EBIT (Segment results) | $(74)M | $21M | |
| Operating cash flow (Cash Flow statement) | $(2,302)M | $(503)M | |
| Adjusted FFO (Cash Flow statement) | $2,008M | $1,181M |
The portfolio is not uniformly healthy. Grain Merchandising and Milling posted a $74 million EBIT loss versus $21 million of EBIT last year, while Tropical Oils and Specialty Ingredients fell to $13 million from $77 million. Grain also absorbed an $82 million charge tied to the announced sale of two Brazilian sugarcane mills, including impairment and hedge losses.
Cash conversion is the main counterweight to the earnings beat. Operating cash flow was negative $2.3 billion, largely because inventories and other working-capital needs absorbed cash, even though adjusted FFO improved to $2.0 billion. This reflects the funding burden of a commodity-processing platform with larger inventory and trade-finance requirements rather than a collapse in underlying profitability, but it leaves the balance sheet more dependent on short-term borrowing.
The strategic story advanced, without a new upward reset. Bunge continued to cite Viterra synergies and reported production starting after quarter-end at the Destrehan facility, while maintaining its full-year adjusted EPS outlook of $9.25–$9.75. That makes the quarter a genuine execution beat, but not a fresh increase in the company’s earnings framework.
Bottom line: Bunge delivered better-than-expected operating earnings because its soybean and softseed processing network is performing well. The result advances the integration story, but grain weakness and sharply negative operating cash flow keep the quarter from being a clean across-the-board improvement.
