CEO appointed — Fabian Garcia becomes CEO Jan. 5, 2027
Clorox’s CEO appointment names Fabian Garcia to succeed Linda Rendle in January, ending a known leadership gap as the company rebuilds growth.
Clorox is in a recovery-and-integration phase: it is absorbing GOJO, rebuilding organic sales after ERP-related shipment disruption, and trying to restore profitable growth in a value-conscious consumer environment. Its FY27 plan already assumes a return to roughly 3.5%-4.5% organic sales growth, so the CEO search was happening against a clear execution challenge rather than a blank slate.
The succession uncertainty is now resolved. The board named Fabian Garcia, currently president of Unilever Personal Care, as CEO effective January 5, 2027. That is a modest improvement versus the standing situation because investors now have a named operator with large consumer-brands experience, rather than an open-ended search.
This is a leadership handoff, not an immediate operating reset. Garcia does not assume the role until January, while Linda Rendle remains CEO through the transition and will advise through April 2, 2027. 〔0〕 The filing provides no new financial targets, restructuring, or change to the FY27 plan; the key question is whether Garcia can improve execution around organic growth, innovation, and the GOJO integration after taking over.
The appointment is partly known, so the surprise is in the choice rather than the event itself. Rendle’s planned departure was announced in May, making a CEO appointment expected; the new information is that Clorox selected an external consumer-products executive with experience at Unilever, Revlon, Colgate-Palmolive, and Procter & Gamble. 〔1〕
Bottom line: Clorox has removed a known succession overhang and chosen a credible consumer-brands operator, but the filing does not yet change the underlying growth or integration challenge. Its business impact is therefore meaningful strategically, but limited until Garcia takes over and demonstrates better execution.
The next hard checkpoint is Clorox’s first-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings report on November 2. 〔2〕
