Noble earnings beat revenue, but 2026 EBITDA outlook narrows

In line — Revenue $729M vs ~$713M consensus; EBITDA guide midpoint fell to $875M

Noble’s Q3 earnings topped revenue expectations and added $560M of contracts, but lower EBITDA guidance and rising net debt temper the update.

Noble is operating a modern, deepwater-focused offshore drilling fleet, with the business trying to convert improving rig demand into higher utilization and durable contract coverage. The quarter itself was better on revenue, but not a clean earnings win. Revenue of $729 million exceeded the published consensus of roughly $713 million, but the filing gives no adjusted EPS figure to compare directly with the approximately $0.23 consensus. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $201 million from $212 million quarter over quarter, while the margin declined to 28% from 30% (Financial Overview).

Contracting momentum is the constructive part of the update. Noble announced approximately $560 million of new contracts since its July 27 fleet report, including awards for BlackRhino, BlackHawk, Faye Kozack, Globetrotter I and Interceptor; backlog nevertheless stood at $6.7 billion versus $6.8 billion in the prior quarter (Summary; Current Backlog). The additions improve forward rig coverage, particularly into late 2026 and 2027, but the modest backlog decline shows that new awards largely offset revenue rolling off rather than creating a clear step-up in contracted revenue.

The guidance change is mixed rather than simply positive. Revenue guidance moved to $2.85 billion–$2.90 billion from $2.80 billion–$2.90 billion, but adjusted EBITDA guidance narrowed to $850 million–$900 million from $850 million–$925 million (2026 Guidance Update). The higher capital-expenditure range is primarily tied to customer-reimbursable spending, rising to $65 million from $25 million, so it is less concerning for underlying investment intensity than the headline increase suggests. 〔0〕

Cash conversion and balance-sheet progress remain the pressure points. Free cash flow was negative $48 million, net debt rose to $1.551 billion from $1.432 billion, net leverage increased to 1.9x from 1.7x, and liquidity declined to $980 million from $1.1 billion (Financial Overview). The maintained $0.50 quarterly dividend preserves the stated capital-return policy, but the combination of negative free cash flow and higher leverage leaves less room for execution slippage.

Bottom line: Noble is adding meaningful contracts and slightly raising the floor under revenue, but weaker margins, negative free cash flow and a lower EBITDA ceiling keep this from being a clean beat. The filing advances the backlog story without materially improving the near-term profitability story.
