The quarter came in slightly ahead of published expectations. Revenue was $151.0 million versus a published consensus near $148 million, while reported EPS of $(0.14) compared with an estimate near $(0.25), making the headline result a modest beat rather than a major upside surprise.

The underlying revenue mix was better than the headline decline suggests. Total revenue fell 13% year over year because prior-year patent-settlement revenue was unusually large; excluding settlements, revenue rose 3% (Financial Highlights). Consumables increased 7% to $130.8 million, led by 16% growth in spatial consumables, while services rose 26% (Revenue by Product Type). That recurring consumables growth is the healthier part of the quarter.
Instrument demand was the clear weak spot. Instrument revenue fell 47% to $7.7 million, with Single Cell instruments down 46% and Spatial instruments down 48% (Revenue by Product Type). Management attributed the positive outlook to early Atera order flow, but the filing provides no unit, backlog, or revenue detail to establish that the new platform has yet offset the current purchasing slowdown.
The guidance increase is real but narrow. Full-year revenue guidance moved from $600–625 million to $610–630 million, raising the midpoint by only about 1.2% (Outlook). The company now expects 2%–5% growth excluding settlement revenue, so the raise improves the near-term setup but does not represent a major reset in growth expectations.
Profitability improved operationally, though reported losses widened. Gross margin rose to 74% from 72%, helped by lower manufacturing costs, $2.6 million of tariff refunds, and fewer inventory write-downs (Financial Highlights). Reported operating expenses rose 39%, but excluding settlement effects they were approximately flat; the larger loss mainly reflects the absence of the prior year’s $40.7 million settlement gain (Income Statement). Cash and marketable securities totaled about $552 million at June 30, providing substantial financial flexibility (Balance Sheet).
Net read: mildly positive versus expectations, with an important qualification. The revenue and EPS beats, higher full-year guidance, and recurring consumables growth outweigh the weak instrument quarter. However, the small guidance lift and lack of quantified Atera contribution keep this from being a broad upside re-rating of the business.
