The quarter was slightly worse than expected financially. Viridian reported a $1.05 loss per common share versus published consensus of roughly $1.02, while revenue of $0.284 million exceeded the roughly $0.03 million expectation largely because of license and collaboration revenue rather than product sales.
| Metric | Q2 2026 | Q2 2025 / expectation |
|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | $0.284M (Condensed Statements of Operations) | $0.075M prior year; ~$0.03M consensus |
| Net loss | $127.1M (Condensed Statements of Operations) | $100.7M prior year |
| Loss per common share | $1.05 (Condensed Statements of Operations) | $1.00 prior year; ~$1.02 consensus |
| R&D expense | $71.6M (Condensed Statements of Operations) | $86.6M prior year |
| SG&A expense | $55.0M (Condensed Statements of Operations) | $20.2M prior year |
| Cash, equivalents and marketable securities | $981.5M (Condensed Balance Sheets) | $762.2M at March 31, 2026 |
The real story is the transition from development company to commercial launch. Lumvoa was approved on June 26, 2026 and its first doses were administered in July, so the quarter contains essentially no commercial product revenue. The company says its sales force reached 95% of 2,000 core prescribers and that early enrollment forms indicate strong demand, but these are early activity measures—not evidence yet of paid prescriptions, payer coverage breadth, or revenue scale (TED Portfolio).
Pipeline timing remains intact rather than newly improved. Viridian reaffirmed a first-quarter 2027 BLA submission for subcutaneous elegrobart, a fourth-quarter 2026 IND submission for its TSHR program, and second-half 2026 data for VRDN-008 (TED Portfolio; FcRn Portfolio). Because these milestones were already expected, the filing mainly removes execution risk rather than creating a fresh upside surprise.
The balance sheet is materially stronger, but the improvement was already known and came with financing-related dilution and debt. Cash and marketable securities reached $981.5 million after the May financing generated $394 million gross proceeds; the company says existing resources plus future commercial revenue should fund current plans through profitability (Financial Highlights; Condensed Balance Sheets). That provides more operating room, while the 125.3 million as-converted share count shows that the capital raise also expanded the equity base (Financial Highlights).
Net read: encouraging launch setup offset by a modest earnings miss. The filing supports the commercial transition and preserves the key 2026–2027 development timetable, but it does not yet provide sales data capable of changing the launch outlook. Against expectations, the small EPS miss keeps this from being a positive quarter; the operational update makes the overall signal mixed rather than decisively negative.
