Beat — Adjusted EPS $1.17 vs ~$0.59 consensus
Apogee’s Q2 earnings beat expectations, with stronger margins and a higher fiscal 2027 outlook despite mixed organic demand and added acquisition debt.
Apogee is repositioning its architectural-products portfolio toward more differentiated building-envelope and specialty-surface offerings, using the Kalwall and pending Groglass acquisitions to add higher-value capabilities while operational programs improve productivity. The second quarter shows that strategy beginning to translate into earnings, though organic demand remains uneven. The published consensus was roughly $0.59 EPS and $362.6 million of revenue, versus reported adjusted EPS of $1.17 and revenue of $391.1 million.
| Metric | Q2 FY2027 | Q2 FY2026 | Change / expectation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales | $391.1M | $358.2M | +9.2%; vs ~$362.6M consensus |
| Adjusted diluted EPS | $1.17 | $0.98 | +19.4%; vs ~$0.59 consensus |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $49.5M | $44.4M | +11.7% |
| Adjusted EBITDA margin | 12.7% | 12.4% | +30 bps |
| Fiscal 2027 sales guidance | $1.46B–$1.50B | $1.38B–$1.43B prior guide | Raised |
| Fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS guidance | $3.00–$3.40 | $2.70–$3.25 prior guide | Raised |
The quarter was a clear earnings beat, not just an acquisition-driven revenue increase. Adjusted EPS rose 19.4% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 12.7%, helped by pricing, productivity gains and Fortify Phase 2 savings. Gross margin also climbed 150 basis points to 24.6%, although higher incentive compensation and material costs prevented the improvement from flowing fully into GAAP earnings. 〔0〕
Management converted the beat into a meaningful guidance raise. The sales-guidance midpoint increased from $1.405 billion to $1.48 billion, while the adjusted-EPS midpoint increased from $2.975 to $3.20. That is more than a routine reaffirmation: management is now embedding stronger first-half execution plus expected contributions from both Kalwall and Groglass. 〔1〕
The growth mix is encouraging but not uniformly organic. Q2 sales growth was 4.6% organic and 4.6% from acquisitions; Architectural Glass grew 21.1%, including a $16.4 million Kalwall contribution, while its organic sales declined 1.6%. Architectural Services and Performance Surfaces supplied the cleaner demand signal, growing 7.9% and 14.2%, respectively.
The improved outlook comes with a larger balance-sheet commitment to the strategy. Six-month acquisition spending totaled $99.6 million, long-term debt rose to $335.5 million from $232.3 million at fiscal year-end, and cash ended at $36.5 million. That does not negate the operating beat, but it means the next proof point is whether Kalwall and Groglass deliver the expected earnings contribution without eroding returns through integration costs or leverage. 〔2〕
Backlog supports the services portion of the story. Architectural Services backlog reached $833.0 million from $792.3 million at fiscal 2026 year-end, giving Apogee some visibility even as management describes the broader demand environment as mixed.
Bottom line: This materially advances Apogee’s story: the company beat on underlying earnings and raised its full-year outlook, with acquisitions now adding to—not merely distracting from—operational improvement. The remaining question is execution on integration and organic demand, not whether the quarter itself was strong.
