NEWS CORP (NWSA) — what happened, in plain English, and what it means versus what the market expected.

This is a routine progress report, not a new capital-allocation decision. The $1 billion repurchase program was authorized on July 15, 2025, and the filing is a daily notification of purchases made on September 10, 2026. The program remains discretionary and subject to market conditions. 〔0〕

MeasureLatest filingProgram context
Shares bought on September 10, 202625,457— (Daily buy-back notification)

Cumulative repurchasesApproximately US$471.0 millionUS$1.0 billion authorization (Buy-back description)
Remaining authorizationApproximately US$529.0 millionCalculated from filing figures

Nearly half of the authorization has now been deployed, but the pace is not itself a surprise. News Corp says it has purchased approximately US$471,009,719 under the program, leaving roughly 53% of the authorization available. 〔1〕

The net read is neutral versus expectations. The filing confirms continued repurchases and shareholder-return support, but adds no increase to the authorization, no acceleration commitment, and no new strategic information. It also confirms that ASX-listed CDIs are excluded from the purchases. 〔2〕
