The quarter missed a fairly modest market bar. Published expectations were roughly $0.45 of quarterly EPS and $156.6 million of revenue; OppFi delivered $0.33 of adjusted EPS and $145.2 million of revenue, or shortfalls of about 27% and 7%, respectively.

Credit performance, not revenue, explains the miss. Revenue edged up only 1.9% while net charge-offs rose materially: the loss rate reached 40% of revenue and 52% of average receivables, versus 32% and 43% a year earlier. Average yield also fell to 132% from 136%, as elevated delinquency outweighed higher statutory rates. The company says it tightened credit and moderated originations, but that defense reduced growth without yet preventing deterioration in portfolio economics (Key Performance Indicators).
The headline GAAP profit increase overstates the operating result. Net income rose 36% to $15.6 million, but adjusted net income fell 27% to $28.8 million and adjusted EPS fell to $0.33 from $0.45. The comparison benefited from a large year-ago warrant-liability loss and lower noncontrolling-interest allocations, while Q2 2026 included $7.9 million of transaction and corporate-simplification costs within adjustments (Q2 Income Statement; Q2 Adjusted Net Income Reconciliation). The recurring earnings picture therefore weakened despite the favorable GAAP headline.
Management reset the full-year earnings framework, not merely the quarterly narrative. Revenue guidance fell from $650-$675 million to $600-$625 million, while adjusted net income guidance fell from $153-$160 million to $115-$130 million and adjusted EPS from $1.76-$1.84 to $1.34-$1.51 (Full Year 2026 Earnings Guidance). The midpoint reductions are approximately 8% for revenue and 22% for adjusted earnings and EPS, making this a material change to the market's forward baseline rather than a one-quarter stumble.
Cash generation and buybacks are the offsets, but they do not reverse the read. First-half free cash flow increased to $104.3 million from $63.8 million, debt declined to $276.5 million from $321.4 million at year-end, and the company authorized $40 million of repurchases (Free Cash Flow Reconciliation; Condensed Balance Sheet; Capital Allocation Highlights). Those actions support liquidity and capital return, but the filing's central new information is weaker credit performance, lower adjusted profitability, and sharply reduced guidance.
